Our History

Providing care since 1908

Our History

In 1908, Simsbury nurse Clara G. Finnerty began offering in-home health care services to members of her local community. By the end of that year, Ms. Finnerty and her fellow nurses had made 1,278 nursing visits to 146 clients across the Farmington Valley.

The Farmington Valley VNA has continued the tradition of care that Ms. Finnerty pioneered more than 100 years ago, helping our neighbors to recover from illness or injury in the place they are most comfortable. Our scope of services now includes rehabilitation, palliative and hospice care, social work services, nutritional guidance, illness prevention programs, medication management, and general health supervision, and our service area extends across the greater Farmington Valley region and includes portions of Barkhamsted, Bloomfield, East Granby, New Hartford, and West Hartford.
